The Abducted Heiress: An Alex Booker Thriller

Some brief overview of book

In Al Macy's series opener (The Protected Witness), the aging accountant Alex Booker was Youthenized, his physical age dropping to puberty. But the process was supposed to be halted by the scientists running him as their experiment. Let's just say he overshot, and is now a permanent sixteen-year-old with the mind and experience and memory of aches and pains of someone far older.

So what's a guy to do? What would anyone do? He marries his beautiful twenty-something assistant and opens a PI shop.

Goes undercover to expose insurance scams. But that doesn't pay enough, they need the big score to get in the game. That score shows up in the disappearance of Misty, the daughter of an extremely wealthy couple.

Booker & Associates is going to try hard to find poor Misty and bring her back - but even old accountants, when burdened by the emotional maturity of a gangly mid-teen, don't make the best of decisions. Finally it comes down to a question of who exactly is rescuing whom? Macy writes an entertaining tale that moves quickly - at times a little too quickly - from the perspective of a forever-young adult.

Meaning that we hear some of the groaners that every parent has to put up with. But Macy's quirky humor is easy to enjoy. And it points up a deep emerging problem: Alex Booker's wife is ageing away from him.

How can a boy who can't mature, act maturely?
